SUN-FOGGED BENDS & DOWNWARD REVERIES

sun-fogged bends & downward reveries emerges from an encounter with the chicamocha, suárez, and sogamoso canyons in northern colombia, as an ecosocial tissue traversed by erosion, solar glare, wind, subsidence, seasonal rainfall, and the geological descents of deep time. in these semi-arid territories, curvature, sedimentation, and seismic forces appear not only as physical processes, but as slow movements that displace materials, bodies, affects, forms of life, and modes of knowledge.

conceived as a question around semi-arid ecologies marked by extraction, historical racialization, and the silencing of territorial knowledge, the installation works with fique as memory and cosmo-material witness: a fiber entangled with artisanal labor, ecological practices, water cycles, and extractive pressures. fique participates in the regulation of water, responds to the rhythms of the moon, the sun, and the wind, and, through its own ecosocial process, registers a concrete temporality: the duration of its exposure to light and wind. its materiality thus condenses solar, hydric, lunar, and seismic memories, allowing us to ask how certain bodies, territories, and materials hold forces that exceed immediate perception.

from these ecological memories, sun-fogged bends & downward reveries remembers, reterritorializes, and reconfigures them into an installation that invites listening to open toward gradients that are often rendered as silences. likewise, the work approaches resonance and infrasonic movement as latent forces: vibrations beneath hegemonic sensibilities that continuously redistribute tension across fault lines, vegetal tissues, and inhabited environments.

by attending to gradients —rather than punctual events—, the installation proposes a grammar of listening toward silent forms of transformation: accumulations, curvatures, droughts, vibrations, erosions, and persistences. from there, the work asks how these ecologies accumulate tension, bend under pressure, resonate across other temporal scales, and persist within regimes that seek to stabilize, racialize, extract, and render them silent.
